RESTORATION

Restoration or conservation is a profession devoted to the preservation of cultural heritage for the future. Hodgsons Forge has a great deal of experience in the restoration and conservation of products made from wrought iron, mild steel, copper and gold leaf.

We are highly experienced in most aspects of handmade wrought ironwork including restoration, repair and where necessary, its replication.  We ensure the prolonged life, appearance, character and integrity of gates or railings of historical and national importance.

Our approach to restoration is one of minimal intervention by repairing and maintaining as much of the original ironwork as possible, using traditional materials and techniques.  Our aim is to preserve historical ironwork and its detailing for future generations to explore and enjoy.

Restoration work can happen at our workshop or on site depending on your requirements.  Safe removal and transportation can be arranged.  Gilding or other paint finishes can also be applied.

We have worked for private individuals, companies and charities across the country. Our clients include The University of Cambridge, The National Trust and HM The Queen’s Estate in Sandringham, Norfolk.
